Welcome
Early 2013: Target to complete the $5 million Final Design effort for the NET SYSTEM. This process will take about 18 months or from August 2011 to about February/March 2013. July 28, 2011: Contract was awarded to HNTB Corporation for the NET SYSTEM Final Design. The $5 million effort is being funded by MTC – see July 28, 2010 below. The consultant is now verifying existing conditions and developing preliminary designs. August 13, 2010: The Request for Proposals to engage consultants to design and prepare construction bid documents for the Suicide Deterrent Net System was issued. July 28, 2010: Metropolitan Transportation Commission allocates $5 million to do the Final Design work that is needed to move the project forward. February 12, 2010: Completed the environment and preliminary engineering certification of the Final Environmental document (FEIR) with the NET SYSTEM as the preferred alternative with a preliminary cost estimate of $50 million. Fall 2006: Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District (District), San Francisco, CA, initiated the Golden Gate Bridge Physical Suicide Deterrent System, Preliminary Engineering and Environmental Project. Funding to construct the NET SYSTEM (est. $45 million) is not identified, and current Board policy states that this funding will not come from Bridge toll revenues.
